SAILING LEGEND: SIR ROBIN KNOX-JOHNSTON

Sir Robin Knox-Johnston will speak on the Sailing Stage in Hall 15 at 14.30 - 15.00

Join us at 15 /A03 and enjoy an unique opportunity to meet Sir Robin Knox-Johnston in person.  Sir Robin will be available to talk to you personally about your sailing ambitions, inspire you to achieve something remarkable and speak about the forthcoming 50 year anniversary of his epic, record-breaking journey.

About Sir Robin Knox-Johnston

On 22 April 1969, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston secured his place in the history books, becoming the first person to sail solo, and non-stop around the globe when he and his 32-ft ketch, Suhaili, returned first into Falmouth, UK after an incredible 312 days at sea in The Times Golden Globe Race.

Unsatisfied at achieving this awesome adventure feat for himself, Sir Robin believes strongly that everyone should have the opportunity to experience the challenge and sheer exhilaration of ocean racing.

Twenty years ago he achieved this aim when he established The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, the only event on the planet which trains non-professionals to follow his experiences and race around the world.

Since then, approximately 5,000 novices have been transformed into ocean racing yachtsmen and women. They choose to cross single oceans, or go ahead and complete the ultimate bucket list challenge, a circumnavigation of our remarkable planet, just like Sir Robin did almost 50 years ago.

Fewer people have raced a yacht around the globe than have climbed Mount Everest, and as Sir Robin says: "You only have one life, paint it in bright colours not pastel shades."

Life is short so what are you waiting for? If you want to be part of one of the biggest endurance challenges of the natural world, and experience something truly remarkable on the race of your life,

The Clipper Round The World Yacht Race - Raced by people like you!

The Clipper Race is one of the biggest challenges of the natural world and an endurance test like no other.

With no previous sailing experience necessary, it’s a record breaking 40,000 nautical mile race around the world on a 70-foot ocean racing yacht.

The brainchild of Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, the first person to sail solo non-stop around the world, the event is now on its eleventh edition, with the twelfth edition starting in 2019-20.

Divided into eight legs and 13 to 16 individual races, you can choose to complete the full circumnavigation or select individual legs. It is the only race in the world where the organisers supply a fleet of eleven identical racing yachts, each with a fully qualified skipper to safely guide the crew.

Normally the domain of seasoned pros, this supreme challenge is taken on by ordinary, everyday people. Having completed a rigorous training course, participants are suited and booted in the latest extreme protection gear to commence the race of their lives - an unparalleled challenge where taxi drivers rub shoulders with chief executives, vicars mix with housewives, students work alongside bankers, and engineers team up with rugby players.

The sea does not distinguish between Olympians or novices. There is nowhere to hide - if Mother Nature throws down the gauntlet, you must be ready to face the same challenges as the pro racer. Navigate the Doldrums en route to South America, endure epic Southern Ocean storms, experience South African sunsets, face the mountainous seas of the North Pacific - and bond with an international crew creating lifelong memories before returning victorious.

Applications are now open for the 2019-20 edition of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. Seize the moment, unleash the adventure.
