This month, FIBRE Mechanics, the Lymington-based carbon yacht specialists, has moved from their original base to a factory six times the size on a neighbouring site. The company can now build new yachts up to 40m in length. Work on the new hull oven, capable of curing yachts at 110 degrees centigrade, is due to start in January.
The larger factory mirrors a six-fold expansion in staff. 2017 has seen the company grow from its five founder members at the beginning of the year to more than 30 highly skilled boat builders and yacht systems engineers.
FIBRE Mechanics has undertaken a wide variety of work this year and currently the company has six projects underway with teams working in three UK locations, as well as on projects in France and Poland.
The first boat is already taking shape in the new factory - however FIBRE Mechanics, an employee-owned company, are preparing to take on substantially larger projects in 2018.
