ITINERARY 1 : 
Cruise N°8 from 03/09/2018 to 10/09/2018

Program:


D1: Welcoming guests at the end of the day, embarkation and overnight in Longyaerbyen.

D2 to D6: Presentation of the cruise, safety instructions followed by sailing off to conquer the majestic ISFJORDEN

We will sail along the coasts of this gorgeous fjord and discover landscapes of a tremendous beauty such as Templefjorden, Dicksonfjorden, Billfjorden, Trygghamna, Hymerbukta, Kapp Linné or Kapp Daudmann.

Throughout your stay, we will discover imposing glaciers, look for local fauna. We will meet a great variety of birds: Arctic Fulmars, Trydactile Gulls (Black Legged Kittiwakes), Atlantic Puffins, Thick-billedmurres, Black Guillemots, Skuas and Great Skuas, Glaucus Gulls, Ivory Gulls, Eiders, Little Auks, Red-throated Loons ....

We will also be looking for the Arctic Reindeer that regularly shows up. Perhaps we will have the chance to encounter whales: Rorquals, Belugas, Seals and we always hope to cross the road of the Lord of the Arctic: the Polar Bear.

We will visit one mining city still in activity : Barensburg or Pyraminden which is not in activity.

D7: Return to Longyaerbyen, last dinner on board.

D8: Disembarking early in the morning.


Typical program of the day: Approximate 2 - 4 hours’ navigation from one stopover to another, sometimes more to reach the northernmost points, discovery of the chosen location, visits to the historical sites or hiking with observations and photography of the fauna, flora. At times, getting close by a glacier with the boat.

The planning and choice of the sites will be made based on meteorological conditions that only the helmsman can appreciate.
It may occur that some destinations cannot be visited.

D2: Introduction to the cruise and safety instructions, followed by sailing off to conquer the majestic ISFJORDEN. First stopover in the beautiful Ymerbukta or Trygghamna, encounter and approch of the first glacier.

D3 to D11: Sailing along the west coast until reaching the extreme North West of the Spitsbergen.

Throughout your cruise, we will discover many glitzy glaciers such as "the King’s Bay", "Lillehookbreen", "Smeerenburgbreen", "Dahlbrebukta" "Monacobreen" ....

We will encounter a great variety of birds: Arctic Fulmars, Black Legged Kittiwakes, Atlantic Puffins, Thick-billedmurres, Black Guillemots, Skuas and Great Skuas, Glaucus Gulls, Ivory Gulls, Eiders, Little Auks, Red-throated Loons ....

We will also be looking for the Arctic Reindeer that regularly shows up and will see the amazing Morses of Poolypynten or Sarstanger.

Perhaps we might have the chance to see polar foxes, seals and whales such as the Rorquals, Belugas, and we will most certainly come across the lord of this region: the Polar Bear.

We will discover many historical sites such as the remains of polar expeditions dating from the early 20th century; ancient whaling sites from the 17th, 18th century, a former German meteorological station dating from the last world war, former trappers' huts, and we will make a stop at NY ALESUND, an international scientific city.

D11 to D12: Return to the magnificent Isfjorden Fjord, stopover at Trygghamna or Hymerbukta and then visit the Russian mining town in Barensburg, still in activity.

D13: Arrival at Longyarbyen last dinner on board

D14: Disembarking early in the morning.

Discover the story of Christophe and his wife Marie-Diane, the ARCTIC SAILING ESCAPE expedition skippers and their vessels.
Following Christophe’s acquisition of his first sailing boats, an Elisabethan 35, then an Arpège, Christophe and Marie Diane sailed a Chance 37 and later a Passoa 47.

Now, in 2016, they invite you to discover the Arctic aboard a Nauticat 515, a larger, more comfortable sailboat, ideally designed for navigating the northernmost latitudes.
