"El Aguila" or "The Eagle" ran cargo between Puerto Cortes, Honduras and San Andres Island. This freighter originally sank in 1989 around the Utila Keys, Bay Islands, Honduras. It was then salvaged and brought to Roatan by Anthony's Key Resort in 1997 and sank in 100' of water for a great Bay Islands dive highlight.
Dive with sharks on a beautiful site on Roatan's south side in about 70-80 feet of water. You can expect to see anywhere from 8-12 Caribbean Reef Sharks at one time. This dive is a relaxed observational dive and not a typical frenzy seen on shark dives in other areas of the world. Minimum of 8 and maximum of 15 divers per dive.
With two guided snorkel trips scheduled daily, as a snorkeler, you won't be tagging along on a dive boat at Anthony's Key. Our dedicated 51’ flat-top snorkel boat tours the inside and outside the reef to unveil Roatan’s rich waters filled with life. There are few places in the Caribbean that offer the diversity of fish, invertebrates and coral that can be found here. Additional snorkeling opportunities abound right in AKR’s backyard lagoon and around Bailey’s Key.
With our snorkel package you'll receive an Underwater Fish ID card to help spot Roatan’s indigenous organisms and sea life. On our 7-night Snorkeling Package you'll also receive a Reef Ecology Lecture and Fish ID Slide Show, as well as a Dolphin Beach Encounter.
For an additional charge, you can also snorkel with our magnificent Dolphins in the protected area of Bailey's Key. This is a unique and unforgettable experience with some of the most playful and intelligent creatures in the sea.
Four decades ago, the creators of Anthony’s Key Resort envisioned a small, tropical hideaway that would allow adventurous travelers the opportunity to experience the beauty of Roatan and the Caribbean as nature intended. Today, the resort still retains an intimacy with its surroundings that are reminiscent of a peaceful island village. Charming, wooden bungalows dot the resort’s palm studded hillside and rim its shimmering lagoon. You can reach the tiny islet on a brief boat ride from the resort’s main grounds, where you'll find more private bungalows and spectacular ocean vistas. While a favorite pastime among guests is lazing in bungalow hammocks, more active visitors can enjoy various watersports on the key’s small beach.
Back at the resort’s main grounds, a restaurant and bar are perched high on a hillside surrounded by towering coconut palms. There, more sweeping views and fiery sunsets are served up alongside delicious tropical fare. Just steps below at the waters edge are the photo, gift, and dive shops, where there is dockage for a fleet of state-of-the-art dive boats. A short walk from there takes visitors to the Roatan Museum and Roatan Institute of Marine Sciences, where guests can participate in educational programs and encounters with marine mammals. More inquisitive guests can join trained naturalists across the lagoon on Bailey’s Key to interact with playful dolphins and observe some of the island’s indigenous plants and animals along the key’s nature trail.
Anthony’s Key Resort’s successful blend of nature, comfort and hospitality, continues to draw return visitors year after year in search of tranquility and adventure.
