Deepblu Announces William Winram as Brand Ambassador

Deepblu, the first company to build a dive computer featuring social integration, announced its cooperation with William Winram, world-record-holding freediver, conservationist and founder of The Watermen Project. Winram has joined the Deepblu team as Brand Ambassador. The announcement came at the 2016 edition of DEMA, the diving industry’s largest annual trade fair in Las Vegas.

“Deepblu admires William’s lifelong devotion to diving, ocean conservation and his unrivaled contributions to shark preservation,” says Deepblu co-founder and CEO James Tsuei, “I’m pleased to announce this partnership and to support William’s initiatives with the power of the Deepblu platform.”

“In my opinion, connecting people to the sea is one of the fundamentals in ocean conservation,” says Winram. “Deepblu is a unique social media platform for all ocean explorers, scuba- and freedivers alike. No matter where we are around the globe, we can share our dives, images and stories with each other and share our love for the underwater world. I am excited to be partnering with Deepblu and look forward to working together to help inspire people to protect and preserve our oceans.”

“We want to connect divers,” concludes Tsuei, “and strongly believe William’s life work will help inspire all of us to induce positive, meaningful change to what binds us all together—the ocean. This is only the beginning, and speaking on behalf of all of us at Deepblu, we’re excited for what’s in store.”

About William Winram
Born in the Canadian Pacific Northwest, Winram’s life-long relationship with the ocean can be traced back to his childhood experiences freediving with his father. In the ensuing years as a diver, competitive swimmer, and big wave surfer, Winram had many opportunities to swim with dolphins, whales, and sharks—impactful moments which later came to form the bedrock inspiration for his conservation initiatives.

Winram discovered competitive freediving as a sport in 2005 and quickly rose through the ranks, winning several medals at the World Championships and setting countless records in nearly all disciplines. A natural born ocean explorer, in 2007 he became the first man to swim the Arch of Dahab’s blue hole, without fins, on one breath of air.

While Winram’s ocean conservation roots were instilled in him by his father—a scuba instructor and search-and-rescue diver—it was in 2012 upon the founding of the non-profit organization (NPO) The Watermen Project that his most enduring legacy began to take shape. The Watermen Project was created to assist those passionate about the ocean to inspire respect, preserve, conserve, and demonstrate a love for all things in the Ocean.

It is Winram’s commitment to ocean conservation along with his compelling storytelling skills that saw the world-record-breaking freediver named Ocean Ambassador for the Global Marine and Polar Programme of the IUCN.

Deepblu Inc. Announces Beta Launch of Deepblu 2.0

Aiming to harness the power of the internet to revolutionize the diving lifestyle, Deepblu announced the coming beta launch of Deepblu 2.0—a major expansion of the Deepblu online platform. Deepblu—which began as a mobile dive log app for iOS and Android—is now expanding into an online community for scuba divers, freedivers, underwater photographers and other ocean lovers. While digital dive logs are still a key part of the platform, Deepblu 2.0 offers the enhanced connectivity of a modern social network and numerous powerful features for social sharing and interaction.

Debuted at DEMA, the Deepblu platform is currently in the testing phase and will go live in early December 2016, at which time it will be accessible across desktop and mobile devices.

The following major functions make up Deepblu 2.0:

User Profile

Users can create a personalized profile and post articles, photos, videos and other media on their profile wall and can comment, like and share other users’ posts. They can add buddies to their buddy list and follow the activities of other divers

Digital Dive Logs

Deepblu has opened the platform to everyone. For divers without a COSMIQ⁺, the platform is compatible with Subsurface™. This software allows users to upload dive information from their 3rd-party dive computers to the Deepblu platform, so now any diver can create the same visually appealing, media-rich and interactive dive logs, Deepblu-style.

Trending Page

A diver’s news aggregator: users can explore new topics and a wide variety of high-quality content curated by the Deepblu Community Team.

Following Page

A dynamic feed similar to the Facebook News Feed mixing content from a user’s buddies and other celebrity divers, NGOs and businesses they follow.

Deepblu Logs Page

A collection of all of the dive logs created on the Deepblu platform where users can explore the adventures of other Deepblu divers. Dive logs are searchable and sortable by keyword, location and more.

The place to connect and interact with other divers in social media-style discussion groups.

Planet Deepblu

An interactive map with thousands of dive spots and associated dive logs that provides users with an intuitive and seamless user experience as they explore diving and the blue planet.

With the launch of Deepblu 2.0, the company seeks to bring together and engage the interests of a diverse community of like-minded individuals, businesses, and organizations by giving them a devoted space to continue the adventure above the surface.

“Looking at the current ways people interact not only in the diving industry but the entire marine community as a whole, it’s easy to see how segmented it is,” co-founder and CEO James Tsuei explains, “Our ultimate goal is to unite the diving community around our platform.”

Deepblu Announces New COSMIQ⁺

The company who built the world’s first dive computer featuring social integration has upgraded its innovative product line with a new addition: COSMIQ⁺. Debuted at the 2016 DEMA Show in Las Vegas, COSMIQ⁺ introduces a brand-new feature for technical divers in five gorgeous colors. Staying true to its roots as the best price-to-performance dive computer on the market, COSMIQ⁺ is priced at the same 299 USD as its predecessor.

Company co-founder and CEO James Tsuei elaborates, “Constant improvement is the company ethos at Deepblu, and COSMIQ⁺ stays true to this goal by enhancing your diving experience.”

COSMIQ⁺ is a refresh of the COSMIQ, Deepblu’s original dive computer, building on all of its existing features, including a 2.2-inch LCD display, rechargeable lithium-ion battery, and free firmware upgrades, and adding a new bottom timer setting. This feature specifically targets the needs of technical divers for a secondary device and expands Deepblu’s customer base to include an important niche in the diving community.

The Bottom Timer Mode replaces the existing Gauge Mode and includes the following measurements: current depth, average depth, run time and stage time. The average depth and stage time can both be reset at the press of a button. This feature makes COSMIQ⁺ appealing to technical divers who need to make decompression stops.

Made up of two distinct color families—Noir and Lumin—COSMIQ⁺ is available in a total of 5 different colors. The Noir line encompasses the existing colors Cosmic Black and Lava Red, and is delivered in the same sleek black housing as its predecessor. The new Lumin line comes in three news colors—Lilac Purple, Steel Grey, and Ocean Blue—in a brand-new new white housing.

“Design and user experience have been core concepts of our company since its inception,” Tsuei says. “With the Noir and Lumin lines, we’re allowing our customers to individualize their dive computer with five distinct colors.”

Slated for a Black Friday (November 25, 2016) release in North America, COSMIQ⁺ will be available globally in December 2016
