Become an IDEA Instructor!

The IDEA Instructor course is planned in 3 modules. The first module consists of standards and procedures, theory and practice, and lesson planning of introductory courses, the basic course and 1 star course. Ultimately, the Instructor Trainer evaluates students’ knowledge of practice, namely water exercises, rescue activity, first aid and CPR maneuvers, and theory, before the IDEA course test and theory lesson test. After positive evaluation the student is admitted to the final exam. If the candidate passes the exam, then he/she becomes a qualified OWD Instructor and can issue certificates of completion for the courses in this module and apply to be qualified for basic level specialties. The second module consists of Advanced OWD, 2 star and Deep Diver courses and lasts 10 hours or more. Completion of this module leads to the designation of Advanced Instructor, which allows the recipient to teach the courses Advanced OWD, 2 Stars, Deep Diver and apply for all IDEA specialties. The third module includes the courses Rescue Diver, Divemaster and Assistant Instructor. Completion of this module leads to the designation of Scuba Instructor, which allows the recipient to teach all IDEA student courses.
Instructors with active status by recognised agencies can participate in a 3 days course (crossover). in this course the Instructor Trainer will train candidates to teach all the IDEA student courses. Candidates who successfully complete the course will achieve the designation Scuba Instructor.

About us

Company details

The International Diving Educators Association (IDEA) was originally established in 1952 as part of the FSDA (Florida Skin Divers Association), and later changed to the Florida Scuba Divers Association. FSDA was a large group of very active Florida dive clubs and has been the voice of the diver since 1952. IDEA is proud of its past affiliation with FSDA. In Europe the first headquarters was established in 1992 in Italy, with the name IDEA Italy, thanks to the efforts of President Gaetano Occhiuzzi, who purchased the rights to use the brand and the educational system. From the beginning of 1995, the Italian headquarters became the European headquarters and IDEA Europe was born, with regional offices in several countries in Europe and instructors outside Europe.
