Renaud Bañuls is a naval architect benefiting from hands-on experience on racing multihulls & monohulls. As foredeck crew on Géant, the ORMA60 trimaran helmed by Michel Desjoyeaux and a trimmer on Frank Cammas highly successful Groupama, Renaud has been able to fully comprehend – in the aggressive environment of multihull & monohull racing – the direct implications of design choices.
He gained his experience in yacht design during his 10 year career at VPLP, where, amongst other, he was involved in the design of the America’s Cup winner BMW Oracle, the maxi trimaran Banque Populaire V, Groupama 2 and 3, many Orma 60 and Imoca 60, and the high performance racer-cruiser SIG45, a sleek looking fast sailing catamaran.
Renaud is also lecturer at the Higher National School of Architecture in Montpellier - France - for 10 years
Charles Simonin joined bañulsdesign in 2011.
Sailing and practicing watersports since early childhood Charles entered the high performance and racing world by his yacht design career.
Since 2004, Charles developed strong skills in naval architecture being involved on various racing designs where he was, from 2006, responsible for conducting performance predictions and overseeing R&D activities. Projects such as maxi trimarans Groupama 3 and Banque Populaire V, latest generations IMOCA60s Safran, Groupe Bel, Macif and Virbac-Paprec 3, special foiling projects such as Syz&Co foiler cat and Hydroptère development campains. Charles was also involved on the America's Cup with BMW Oracle on the 33rd and ACRM design package on the 34th.
He holds an Engineering degree from ICAM (2003) and a Naval Architecture degree from the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Paris-La Villette (2005).
