Unique Dive Expeditions

Unique Dive Expeditions enables you to gather completely new dive experiences in Palau, based on the monthly lunar cycles. During Full and New Moon, different species of fish gather in huge aggregations to spawn. Numbers can vary from hundreds to thousands depending on the species. These mind-blowing spawning events usually attract Palau's biggest predators as well. Take advantage and dive in a small and flexible group (maximum 7 divers).

During Full Moon, watch the aggregation and spawning of Red Snapper (Lutjanus Bohar) while Grey Reef Sharks (Carcharhinus Amblyrhynchos) and Bull Sharks (Carcharhinus Leucas) are on the hunt for a quick meal.

During New Moon, Bumphead Parrotfish meet for a limited time to spawn in the early morning.

Black Water Diving

Sam’s Tours is the pioneer of Black Water Diving in Palau and has been featured in many publications, television and documentaries.

The Blackwater Dive starts late in the evening. As the name suggests, the divers enter the water with no ambient light available. A line tied to the boat takes the group to a depth of 12 meters. A line tied off the boat takes the group down to a depth of twelve meters where lights attached to a bar attract the marine life and offer amazing photo opportunities.

Many of the species appear to be local reef fish in the their early juvenile phase though there were also lots of invertebrates which have yet to be identified. The team of Unique Dive Expeditions is working closely with other scientists around the world to identify them and find out if they are not yet described species.

Dive vacation Palau

Palau is constantly named one of the top 10 dive destinations in the world. The pacific island state welcomes visitors throughout the year with attractive offers, above and under water. Strong drift dives are legendary and often require the use of the genuine Palau Reef Hook. It is very difficult to NOT see a shark during a dive in Palau. Many guests would simply love to dive Blue Corner, the iconic dive spot for shark encounters, at least once a day. However, if one measures the „success“ of the dive vacation in Palau only by the number of Blue Corner dives, misses out on the variety this destination has to offer: Palau is famous for an incredible biodiversity and exciting wreck dives as well.

Sam’s Tours is Palau's premier 5* PADI IDC dive center, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2015. The spacious grounds provide an excellent infrastructure and are home to the private yacht harbor of Palau as well as the provider of kayak excursions, Planet Blue Kayak Tours.

Sam’s Tours offers unique dive experiences 365 days a year. The full day excursions include 2 tank dives, a lunch break at one of the uninhibited islands of the Rock Islands - UNESCO heritage - and a complimentary snorkeling stop at famous Jellyfish Lake and an additional dive at Chandelier Cave when booking a dive package with 7 nights stay.
Third dives are done in close proximity to the dive center at one of the numerous wrecks or at a dive site in the protected inner lagoons. Another opportunity for a third dive is „Sam’s Macro Wall“ right at the dive center - home of a resident colony of colourful mandarin fish who come out of their hides every afternoon. This dive is offered free of charge. The friendly staff of the dive center puts a high emphasis on individual customer care and a perfect service: Every wish that is doable, will be taken care of!

A Heart for Sharks: The most creative selfie with “Harry the Hammerhead” at Sam’s Tours booth wins dream vacation

At this year's BOOT Show in Dusseldorf, Palau’s premier dive centre, Sam's Tours, invites visitors to participate in a social media event at Booth E74 in Hall 3 to learn more about the world's first official shark sanctuary and the need to protect these apex predators.

Palau's reputation as one of the world’s best dive destinations of the Pacific Island nations is largely owing to its intact shark population; it is also one of the main reasons European divers fly half-way around the world for an amazing encounter with these elegant animals in their natural habitat.

To change the public's perception of sharks and promote a more accurate understanding of the critical role these apex predators play in keeping our oceans healthy and in balance, Sam’s Tours Palau is organizing a social media event at the 48th BOOT Show from January 21-29, 2017 in Dusseldorf. To stand a chance to win a dream vacation in Palau, visitors are invited to take a selfie with “Harry the Hammerhead”, a plush shark, at Booth E74 in hall 3 with their own smartphone; then upload the photo to their own Facebook or Instagram account and tag it with #samstoursboot2017, #harrythehammerhead, #samstourspalau, and #palaupacificresort. The top prize is seven nights' stay at the luxurious Palau Pacific Resort in Palau and five days of diving with Sam’s Tours Palau. Runner-ups stand to win vouchers for ten and five days of diving with Sam’s Tours Palau.

“The protection of sharks is particularly dear to us at Sam’s Tours. Fortunately, the president of Palau, Tommy E. Remengesau, shares the same passion and has been making every effort possible to protect these assets critical to the dive tourism. But we also know that the general public have a negative image of sharks and thus it is important to correct these attitudes and misunderstandings; that’s why we want to take every opportunity to educate and convey a positive image of these animals that play a vital role in the ocean's ecosystem.” says Marc Bauman, Director of Sales & Marketing, Sam's Tours Palau.
