While it was GPS navigation that fascinated the sailing world about 50 years ago, today's hottest ticket is everything connected with foiling, wingsails and alternative boat building. Paying tribute to the wide range of innovations, boot Düsseldorf's well-established and popular Sailing Center is being extended in 2019: the new Tech Zone in Hall 15 offers a focus on technologies recently developed in high-performance regatta sailing. Short video sequences, futuristic exhibits and a designated area for eSailing invite visitors to experience, test and discuss innovations.
Focus on innovation
What is the difference between a conventional sail and a wing sail? How can a 44 ft catamaran sail just on the tip of two foils? What is the difference between L- and T-foils? Can you sail around the world in a hull made of vulcanized fibre? Such are the questions dealt with in the Tech Zone at the 50th boot Düsseldorf.
Tech Zone - technology, innovation & more
See it and comprehend it, that is the motto of the Tech Zone. Take a moment and get audiovisually immersed in the magic world of sailing. Decide for yourself about which technologies, innovations and designs you want to find out more. Let the pioneers explain sailing to you as it will be in the 21st century.
Exhibits and Models
Various exhibits represent the latest developments and trends. "The Foiling Dinghy" brings the art of flying to your home sailing spot. The monohull can be sailed like a laser - and it takes off. The self-adjusting foils allow safe foiling fun even for inexperienced sailors. Following the last America's Cup races at the latest, everybody is talking about it: Wingsails become increasingly popular in regatta sailing. At the Tech Zone you can find out about the differences between a conventional sail and a wing sail in terms of aerodynamics.
