Practical workshops and expert presentations on all aspects of yacht maintenance
Learning from the experts
Mending, repairing, installing new features - many boat owners enjoy working on their boats and keeping everything shipshape. But which tasks can you safely take care of yourself and which are better left to the professional experts? Reliable advice, tips, tricks and practical instructions will be provided in workshops and presentations by expert boat builders and service technicans at the Refit Center of boot Düsseldorf 2018.
For the first time this year, the boot Refit Center in Hall 11, which has undergone an extensive redesign, will be offering practical experts' workshops alongside the usual numerous lectures! As a result, visitors can expect an even more extensive programme during boot 2018, including new hands-on workshops. Learn from the professionals how to retain or even increase the value of your boat, how to execute a great variety of repairs, which tools to use for good results and many more useful tips and tricks. Bastian Hauck and Hinnerk Weiler, experienced in refit and boat building experts will guide visitors through the daily schedule of lectures, workshops and presentations.
NEW! Practical workshops at the Refit Center
Emergency sail repairs Sailmaker Faber + Münker is offering a workshop for emergency sail repairs. Based on old sails, Ulrich Münker explains step by step, how to repair tears in the sail, how to properly apply adhesive tape and how to repair damage using a sailmaker's needle and yarn until a professional sailmaker can take care of a permanent repair. Know how every recreational sailor needs.
Refitting older hulls There are, of course, also workshops on classic topics of craftsmanship such as reprocessing aged hulls: In a workshop titled "Polish & Protect", Peter Wrede Yacht Refit demonstrates the often underestimated alternatives to a new coat of varnish: simple polishing can often restore old gelcoat to a shiny new appearance if applied correctly. This workshop at the Refit Center also explains how to preserve this new, shiny look for a long time and what is required to protect polished surfaces professionally.
More hands on activities If you like to take home a little souvenir from the boat show, join the rope and splicing workshop to learn how to make a safe eye-splice in braided ropes. The Dutch company Premiumropes BV guides visitors step-by-step through the splicing of a soft shackle. Other workshops on schedule are focusing on wood works and laminating.
Here are some of the highlights in the extensive schedule of lectures on the Refit Center stage 2018: A number of private boat owners will talk about their experiences with their own refit projects, encouraging fair visitors with their stories to start tackling their own projects. Other talks focus on required background knowledge from the required initial planning of a refit project through to its practical implementation.
With decades of experience from safety checks before the starts of the annual Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) to build on, the "Fit for the Atlantic" panel discussion organized together with the World Cruising Club will focus on those issues of crucial importance when refitting a yacht for long-distance cruises. From Monday to Friday, round-the-world-sailor Sönke Roever gives vivid insights into the extensive refit of his boat before his circumnavigation of the world.

There is also a lot of specialized knowledge available from the lectures on the Refit Center stage: For example, the Refit Center moderators talk to the founders Greenboats about alternative boatbuilding materials, and yacht suppliers AWNiemeyer gives an overview of which antifouling best to apply in which situations and locations. What to do about diesel plague and diesel aging will be explained by MFT Microfilter Technology. Of course, there are also valuable tips on how to banish these phenomena from your diesel tank completely. In the field of electronics, Jan Ludwig from Mörer Schiffselektronik offers an overview of the broad topic of electronic refit in a guided conversation with the audience.
Even if refitting a boat can get quite dirty, the Refit Center offers a clean programme for you to prepare for the challenge: Peter Wrede Yacht Refits explains all about preventing and reparing osmosis damage to GRP hulls as well as and the professional processing of steel and aluminum hulls. For a cozy interior, Laroma Travel explains about new boat mattresses and pleasant lighting concepts based on energy-saving LED concepts from Båtsystem.
Look forward to these and many other topics on schedule at the boot Refit Center 2018 in Hall 11!
