SUP:Lost Mills International SUP Race - meet and race against World Champions
28/02/2013
The 33,000$ Lost Mills International SUP Race is going to be one of the biggest and most entertaining events of 2013. After the success of our first race last year - which saw World Champion Chase Kosterlitz triumph over Europe‘s finest - the „Lost Mills“ returns bigger and better to Germany‘s scenic Bavaria May 27th - June 2nd.
Even more elite field than last time
This year the races will be bigger, the prize purse richer, and the field of paddlers even more elite than last time. Some of the biggest names in Stand Up Paddling, from as far away as California and Australia are already confirmed for the 2013 Lost Mills. The stars of international SUP racing will join hundreds of paddlers from across Europe for a week of SUP races, demos, clinics and parties in a beautiful part of Europe.

Your chance to meet (and race against) World Champions
This is your chance to meet (and race against) World Champions Chase Kosterlitz (USA), Jamie Mitchell (Aus) and Travis Grant (Aus), Australian Champions Beau O‘Brian and Angela Jackson, Olympic Gold Medallist Krisztina Zur (Hungary), 4x Olympian and founder of Quickblade Paddles, Jim Terrell (USA), and several more. They will be joined by all of Europe‘s elite paddlers, including last year‘s runner-up Eric Terrien (France) and third-place getter Casper Steinfath (Denmark) or Stephan Stiefenhöfer (Germany) Worldchampion in Kayak and Norman Weber (Germany) World Champion in Kayak, or Bart de Zwart, only to name some.
18km Long Distance race
The main event of the Lost Mills - the Long Distance race - has been increased to 18km this year, just to make it a real challenge. This race crosses the beautiful lakes of Kleiner & Grober Brombachsee, where paddlers will negotiate a series of buoy turns while literally paddling over the top of nine historic timber mills. These mills were lost when Brombachsee was created many years ago, so it is these „Lost Mills“ that give the event its name. The 2013 Lost Mills also offers a unique and very exciting new race: „The Fastest Paddler On Earth“. Competitors will paddle 200m over an electronically timed course, with the fastest time walking away with a $6,500 Brietling watch. To find the absolute fastest paddler, we have levelled the playing field: All paddlers will be on the same board, the 12‘6“ Mistral M1 inflatable SUP. This is going to be Olympic Track & Field meets SUP racing.
One of the most lucrative SUP races in the world
There will also be open races for different age groups as well as sprint races, demos and clinics for paddlers of all abilities. Plus you can even hire the giant „Mistral BIG SUP“, which holds 10x paddlers at once. This year we‘re offering a total of $33,000 in prizes, including $21,950 cash prize money alone. This makes the Lost Mills one of the most lucrative SUP races in the world. To cap off an entertaining week, the Lost Mills will host live music performances under a giant, 3,000-person marquee tent, which will be positioned right beside the water and right next to the race finish line. We‘re very excited to announce that Oktoberfest legends „Münchner Zwietracht“ and cult German outfit „The Troglauer Baum“ will be performing live.
Plenty of generous German hospitality
We also guarantee you plenty of generous German hospitality, so whether you‘re in it for the fun, the glory, the chance to meet the stars of Stand Up Paddling, or if you just want to spend a fun week SUP racing in scenic Bavaria, event organizer Sepp Gsänge invites you to join us for the 2013 Lost Mills International SUP Race.
