Trofeo Princesa Sofía - more than just an event, a tradition off Mallorca's shore19/03/2012
Every spring, over a thousand sailors from 53 countries come to Mallorca to participate in a unique event where the best crews of Olympic sailing compete in the hope of victory and receive from H.R.H.Queen Sofia, the trophy that bears her name. A legendary trophy on which are inscribed the winners of the 42 editions held to date. The “Sofía MAPFRE” Trophy has become over the years a tradition that is part of social and sporting calendar of Mallorca, that feels it as their own and inalienable. A fact that was reinforced with the participation of members of the Royal Family is a fact of their bond with the race.

It is a unique race, almost magical. The Bay of Palma offering perfect conditions for sailing, together with the warm welcome of the inhabitants of Mallorca, make a competition especially appreciated by those who have participated before. The elite of Olympic classes regattas
For three years now, the TROFEO SOFIA MAPFRE has been one of the events of the ISAF Sailing World Cup, the most important Olympic classes’ events circuit in the world. A circuit formed by only 5 regattas and held in the best racing courses of the planet. A high profile sports event and meeting point of the best world crews of the moment. In November, ISAF selected the TROFEO SOFIA MAPFRE as one of the 2 European events included in the 2013-2014 ISAF Sailing World Cup 2013- 2014.
