Keus 22 - open keelboat for shallow waters

Nominated for European Yacht of the Year 2012, the Keus 22 is a ‘convenience yacht’ made in Friesland, Holland. Designed for the large and shallow lakes in the Netherlands, but with only 90-centimetre draft also suitable to sail the coasts and bigger lakes of Europe and the rest of the world. Designed for a perfect performance under sail: High stability, lots of sail, symmetrical waterlines when the boat is heeled and a flat bottom to support planing downwind.
Sailing under extreme weather conditions
Shallow draft and self righting is a challenge to combine in a typical open keelboat. The Keus 22 solved this problem. Her design fits the CE-C category - so it's suitable to sail the large lakes, coasts and delta areas - but still the Keus 22 is specially designed for the narrow canals and shallow lakes in the Netherlands. Because of better sailing outfit it's possible to sail in cold and rainy weather and at high wind speeds. These conditions demands a self-rightning boat. The Keus 22 has a large sail which means that you can gain a lot of speed even at low windspeeds. Because the boat is self-rightning, you can afford to make some mistakes. The Keus 22 allows you to do more extreme sailing, even on the shallow Frisian lakes. The boat is safe and challenging. In order to make sailing easier for beginners, the Keus 22 features an outboard engine in a bun inside. It makes manoeuvring in the crowded Dutch waterways very simple.
