Skimboarding - tremendous fun without waves

During the hot months of summer, when there is absolutely no wind and no waves, you are bound to look for alternatives. The surf is flat and there is no motor boat or wakeboarding lift available? There is still one more option out there for gliding on top of the water that will help cool you down from the blazing heat.
Slipping and tripping
Nobody knows exactly just how this sport came into being, but one thing is for sure. Some day someone came up with the idea of jumping on top of a board that was lying flat in the water. And that someone ended up slipping and falling down. This is how every first skimboarding session is likely to begin, because skimboarding is the ideal sport to perfect your skills of falling flat on your butt in style.

Different kinds of skimboarding
A distinction is made between sand skimboarding and shore brake skimboarding. Sand skimboarders glide across the thin wash of previous waves while performing various tricks that are often derived from skateboarding. Shore break skimboarders, often referred to as wave skimboarders, glide across the wash of waves and use their momentum to ‘skim’ out to breaking waves, which they then catch back into shore in a manner similar to surfing.
