Volvo Penta D13-800 - highly efficient twin-entry turbo

The D13-800 is equipped with Volvo Penta’s highly efficient twin-entry turbo with pulse charging, resulting in a very high torque from low rpm. The D13-800 reaches its maximum torque of 2900 Nm at only 1300 rpm/min, a uniquely high torque for this class of engine. This gives powerful acceleration up on the plane, which is important for comfort as well as safety.
Low fuel consumption
The D13-800 retains a very high torque throughout its speed range. This makes it possible to maintain a good cruising speed even with a heavily loaded boat or in a rough sea. Highly efficient combustion is a prerequisite for low fuel consumption and low emissions. EMS 2, the engine control system developed by Volvo Penta, regulates fuel injection. The system controls the unit injectors, one per cylinder, which operate at a pressure of as much as 2000 bar and atomize the fuel for optimum combustion. The result of this efficient combustion is lower fuel consumption for the D13 than the D12 at the same power output.

Quick shift and low speed
The D13 is available with quick-shift reverse gears, which is a very useful function providing very fast but soft shifting with a minimum delay. The reverse gear also comes with a low-speed function as standard, meaning that the speed when idling drops from about six knots to three knots. You can drive safely in a harbor without having to go to neutral to slow down.
Integrated electronics
The D13-800 is equipped with EVC-D, the fourth and latest version of Volvo Penta’s electronic platform, which includes electronic shift and throttle all the way from the controls to the engine. EVC functions are easily managed through push-buttons on the control head. Single-lever function gives the possibility to control the speed of all engines in a multiple installation with one lever. Cruise control allows the driver to fine-tune the engine speed in increments using the integrated push button as an alternative to the lever and Low speed mode reduces boat speed at idling by 50%.
