Jessica Watson, youngest round-the world solo sailor, at boot 2011

Australian sailor Jessica Watson became the youngest person to sail non-stop and unassisted around the world. Watson departed from Sydney on 18 October 2009 and returned to Sydney on 15 May 2010, three days short of her 17th birthday. She sailed around the southern part of the earth, a distance of around 23,000 nautical miles, past the tips of South America and Africa, before making her way along Australia's southern coast and around the island state of Tasmania.

No longer a "little girl"
Watson said in an interview that the reason to set out on the solo circumnavigation was that she wanted to challenge herself and achieve something she could be proud of, and she wanted to inspire others. She wrote a book about her experience, "True Spirit", and has also filmed a documentary about her solo trip before, during and after completing her solo trip which was released on DVD.

Jessica Watson will be onstage at the Sailing Center of boot Düsseldorf 2011. She will talk about the ups and downs of her round-the-world voyage and present the German edition of her book "Solo mit Pink Lady: Mit 16 die Welt erobert". The stage will once again be in Hall 17, right next to the manufacturers of sailing yachts and dinghies.
