Volvo Penta introduces two new engines 2007
Volvo Penta Sweden has introduces two new models of its popular IPS drive system for boats, to expand its product range for 2007. The two engines, named Volvo Penta IPS350 and IPS600 have a cylinder head cast as a single unit and engine blocks reinforced with a special "ladder frame". A quiter engine sound without diesel clatter is possible because of the common-rail fuel injection.
Safety and comfort
Volvo Penta's product planner Lennart Sellman says: "The attitude to boat engines has changed. Previously, top speed and acceleration were decisive, but today more is required. Boat purchasers are placing increasingly rigorous demands on engines - perhaps the key factor in the boating experience - in terms of environmental performance, safety and comfort."
More even running
The four-cylinder diesel IPS350 has a turbocharger, intercooler and compressor. It has a 3.7lt capacity and a crankshaft output of 260hp at 3,500rpm and adapts the companys own D4-260 engine. To compensate for the engine's rotational forces, the balance shafts are mounted in the engine block, so the running is more even, says the company. The straight six-cylinder diesel The Volvo Penta IPS600, is based on their own D6-435 engine also containes a turbocharger, intercooler and compressor. It has a torque of 1,017Nm at 2,000rpm and a crankshaft output of 435hp at 3,500rpm. Both new engines follows the EU and United States 2007 emissions requirements.
