VDO Ocean Line makepoint switch
Siemens VDO is the premier choice for boat-builders, engine manufacturers, shipyard owners and yacht owners. As the market leader in instruments for sailing yachts, sports boats and small professional craft including lifeboats, the brand offers its maritime customers a proven track record and an extremely wide product range. The portfolio ranges from numerous indicator instruments including all the necessary sensors through sea chart plotters for maritime navigation to a Marine Audio Line and the first multimedia solutions suited to operation on water.
Complete control
The core of the Siemens VDO marine product range is the Ocean Line series of instruments. It brings together over 70 indicators and with the corresponding sensors and measurement systems to allow monitoring of engines and onboard power and checking the boat's speed and that of the wind, the water depth, course and direction of the wind. Ocean Line Combi - a combined device comprising an analogue water depth indicator with digital additional information - was recently added to the Ocean Line Range. A pointer shows the current depth of water below the keel on a scale, while the digital display in the lower half of the instrument cycles through the distance, water temperature, speed and an additional depth gauge at the touch of a button.
Germanische Lloyd seal of approval
The complete Ocean Line series meets the most stringent demands in terms of shock, temperature, vibration resistance, as well as EMC, and is therefore one of the few product lines on the market to carry the Germanische Lloyd seal of approval, normally only required for commercial shipping. In addition, the instruments are also sea-water proof, condensation-proof and have UV protection. All instruments can be combined as required, and effortlessly changing the front ring allows up to 30 different design variants to be tried out to ensure it matches the look onboard.

MAP 7W/Wi chart plotter
Sea chart plotters
Besides the instruments, Siemens VDO also offers a range of sea chart plotters for integration in new boats by wharfs or easy installation by end users. The plotters have colour screens with various diagonals and provide the skipper with help in setting the course, with a precise electronic view of sea charts, and countless other pieces of information. A special transflective display ensures that all screens can be viewed easily even in very bright sunshine. The optional C-COM module, a mobile telephony modem, enables users to retrieve current weather information and integrate this into the data shown on the screen. From the middle of this year, it will also be possible to bring the data of a radar antenna on the screen. MAP 11csE also forms the basis for an onboard multimedia centre. It is already possible to connect a fishcam, TV receiver, DVD player, video recorder or games console. In the future, it will even be possible to access the Internet at sea.
Great sound
Great sound is already provided as Siemens VDO also offers a Marine Audio range. There are for example two sea-water proof speakers, providing a brilliant sound with 60 watts music power and a special radio cover that allows VDO or VDO Dayton cassette or CD tuner units to be mounted in the boat. An optional remote control enables users to decide what to listen to from the cockpit.
High level of competence
In all of these marine product ranges, boat-builders and owners will each benefit equally from Siemens VDO's high level of competence, and naturally from the experience as one of the leading suppliers to the automotive industry. Siemens VDO develops many vehicle components, especially in the areas of instrumentation, navigation systems and multimedia solutions for renowned manufacturers such as Mercedes, Porsche and BMW, that find their way onto the waves through the marine section. In addition, the company is one of the few providers of marine products to have at its disposal a well-extended world-wide service and sales network, so that customer care and spare parts supply is guaranteed around the globe.
