The Route, the Trophy, the History...

The route: New York/Newport -
Cuxhaven/Hamburg
The DaimlerChrysler North Atlantic Challenge 2003 is open to seaworthy racing and cruising vessels, not less than 40 feet LOA. The transatlantic race is organized by Norddeutscher Regatta Verein, Hamburg, with the support of the New York Yacht Club.
The race, to begin on June 14, 2003, will start close to Newport in the Rhode Island Sound near the entrance channel to Narragansett Bay. The finish line will be off Cuxhaven, 60 miles down river Elbe from Hamburg, Germany, a distance of approximately 3,500 nautical miles.

The trophy
When passing to the north of Great Britain - a turning mark - the racing will take place under the famed "White Nights". More than 100 yachts from all over the world have registered already.
The winning ship is expected around 1 - 10 July in Cuxhaven. The trophy award is handed out in the city hall of Hamburg from Hamburg's senator Ole von Beust.
