The most advanced functionality for boating that quickly creates detailed routes
Navionics, the leader in content and location-based services for the recreational boating and outdoor markets, announced today that the Navionics Boating App’s Dock-to-dock Autorouting functionality is now available on Android, in addition to iPhone, iPad and select chartplotters. The feature makes it even easier for boaters to plan their outings on a mobile device.
The most advanced functionality for boating, Navionics Dock-to-dock Autorouting provides a range of capabilities and quickly creates detailed routes from a real start point to a real end point, even through narrow passages and channels, where they are needed most, thanks to sophisticated algorithms and massive amounts of data.
With simple user input, boaters can choose a starting location and destination by tapping on the map, entering latitude/longitude or selecting a point of interest (POI) like the harbor master, marinas and moorings, fuel stations, restaurants and bars, shops, taxis and launch services, repairs and dealers. A detailed route is calculated taking into consideration chart data, navigation aids, water depth and more. The route even highlights precautions along the way such as shallow water, bridges and other hazards. Estimated fuel consumption, distance and ETA are also shown. POIs nearby the destination appear automatically within the Autorouting menu, complete with phone numbers.
“Creating complex routes can be done in seconds. The response to Dock-to-dock Autorouting has been overwhelming and we are very pleased to now offer it to Android users,” said Don Black, senior vice president of global sales and marketing, Navionics.
Navionics charts are continuously enhanced with new and amended content from official sources, public and private surveys, and millions of sonar logs and Community Edits contributed by boaters, then processed and published daily, ensuring the charts are safer and more up-to-date than any other. However, Navionics emphasizes that a route automatically calculated by Autorouting does not replace safe navigation practices and should never be boaters only reference source.
Dock-to-dock Autorouting won the 2016 Sail Pittman Innovation Award, ADI-IBI Innovation Award at Genova Boat Show 2015 and received special mention for the DAME Design Award at METSTRADE 2015 in Amsterdam.
On mobile devices, innovative Dock-to-dock Autorouting is a feature of the Navionics Boating app starting with version 8.0 for Android, and version 8.4 for iPhone and iPad, where it is part of the overwhelmingly valuable Navionics+ one-year subscription package included in any paid app. On chartplotters, Navionics Dock-to-dock Autorouting is currently available worldwide, except in USA, on Raymarine MFDs. Compatibility is planned soon for Lowrance, Simrad and B&G models.
