Anyone who has ever discovered the Traunsee region, will enjoy a finely tuned service chain from hotels to restaurants and watersports vendors. With "Celox Sailing" in Gmunden and "Traunsee Sailing School" in Traunkirchen even more new sailing schools have emerged locally in recent years, which introduce their students to the fun of sailing on Lake Traun.
Cristal clear water and perfect wind conditions
The Traunsee spreads as the deepest lake in Austria at the foot of majestic Traunstein mountain. It is an area with crystal clear water and good wind conditions for beginners as well as professionals. Local winds like the "Rose Wind" or "Viechtauer" neatly propell sailboats and yachts to their optimum speeds. On this basis the Traunsee has been established as a prime sailing spot with the Traunsee Week, the international RC44 Austria Cup and the world premiere of the high profile GC32 racing catamarans. At the GC32 Austria Cup it feels as if the rapid high-tech catamarans just fly across the lake. Together with the Traunsee Week, these regattas have turned Lake Traun into an international sailing arena.
Alternative destinations nearby - Lake Atter
Beyond Lake Traun, the region has even more destinations on offer for sailing and surfing addicts. The region Salzkammergut alone has 76 lakes on offer - each with its own distinctive character. A perfect area for all kinds of watersports is, for example, Lake Atter. As Austria's largest lake, it offers plenty of room for extended trips. With its unique topography, Lake Atter is also a real Eldorado for divers.
Mondsee and Irrsee
Fun on the water for kids is best to be found at the Mondsee and Irrsee. The two warmest laked among the lakes of Salzkammergut region are ideal for families who like to spend their holidays on and in the water with majestic mountains in the background. It is not surprising that one of the biggest sailing and surfing schools in the German speakingcountries is to be found here in Upper Austria.
